How To Become a Cat Show Steward

A steward is the person who assists the judges at the cat show. Again to ensure absolute top quality and professionalism the process is managed through the GCCF and the "Stewarding Scheme". for further information go to GCCF This is the process:

1. Applicants join GCCF Stewarding Scheme and work through to become a GCCF Steward. No obligation to join Judge Appointment Scheme.

2. Applies to GCCF Office completing Form 1 and paying fee of £20. Is given pack of Rules etc and set of stewarding notification forms (Form 2) and table work certificates (Form 3).

3. Purpose of scheme is to train stewards to develop the ability to handle cats across the breeds and to gain a thorough knowledge of show administration, rules and procedures and to understand the manner and attributes required in Stewards.

4. After minimum of 20 stewarding engagements across the breeds and a variety of judges and five table work certificates (at least 3 at all-breed shows), they nominate a BAC of their choice to monitor their progress during the final stage (Form 4).

5. They then, after a minimum of a further year and a minimum of 5 certificates (form 5) from 5 different judges, may apply to the BAC for consideration as a GCCF Steward (form 6)

6. The BAC considers the application and all available information including the stewarding certificates. If the application is approved, the BAC informs the GCCF Office and a GCCF Stewarding Badge may be awarded. As a guide to the standard required of a GCCF Steward, they should be capable of stewarding for an Overseas Judge who may not be conversant with GCCF procedures and ensure a smooth running day for the exhibitors, cats, judge and show administration.

7. If the available information does not indicate they have reached the required standard, the trainee steward will be required to submit up to five further certificates before they may reapply.
