July
Charming Ellie. Thankyou. But where do you put yourself when the temperature is up to 34 degrees? Poor old Lou under that fur coat. He just didn't know where to put himself. July was definately sleepy on our backs time. Doesn't a cats life look appealing?
August
With the coming of the rains, Lou and El are spending more time in the house. So they are playing more together. Or are they playing? Chasing around the house can quickly change to thundering around the house! Chasing can quickly turn to what appears to be vicous attacks. Its highly likely as they can not go out, boundaries within the house need to be changed and fought over again. Its difficult sometimes to know when to intervene. We were advised they need to sort it out themselves, and true enough they usually do with little more lost than bruised pride. Its difficult to listen to what appears to be sounds of distress. We have agreed that we will interfere when one of them is cornered.
September
Well, the rains are what we needed here in Kent. But they aren't what Louie wanted. Whenever he can go out, he does. With the really heavy rains we often see Lou (picture below) sitting half-way in the cat flap and half-way out. Bless him. It's raining again...
October
Ellie is entered for the Precious Pets competition in the Kent Messenger. She is up against other cats, dogs, guinea pigs, rabbits, parrots and a hen. Well...we think she's got a chance. November
Louie and Ellie are much more friendly with each other. They have often been found sleeping together (platonic! ). But fights still rage every now and again(above). We are never sure if these are play fights or the real thing. No one seems to get hurt - except for us when we are watching them. Ellie has decided to start unearthing the Cheese plant again. The strange thing is she did this exaxctly the same time last year in November. this maybe because the whether has turned so cold they are unablt use the earth outside. A useful way of dealing with this problem is to place heavy stones on top of the earth. She hasn't done it since. December
What a month! We entered Louie in the Medway and Maidstone Cat show again.
Louie won two firsts and a second in his competitions. One of the firsts that he won was in the Aristocats section so he was up against all the other semi-long hair pedigree cats who had won a premier certificate. He also won his second premier certificate which means if he wins one next year he will be classed as a "Premier". He also won a Best of Breed award. However....
Very soon afterwards Lou showed he had very bad stomache troubles. Within a short while Ellie was showing symptoms of it too. The vet gave them both an antibiotic injection. This seemed to work fine for Ellie but by 30th Dec Louies' symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea were back with a vengeance. The emergency vet decided to keep him in and put him on a drip to replace the nutrients he had lost. On 2nd Jan 2007 we brought him home and he is back to his old self. Fighting fit and curious about everything. In the above photo, the front right leg is bandaged after the leg was shaved and the injection was inserted. Anyway... Good news again as we get nearer to 2007. Louie and Ellie have been placed in the Medway and Maidstone Calender 2007 (January). Below is the picture which went in.
Last but not least... Ellie was short listed to the final thirteen in the Kent Messenger Precious Pets competition. Thats not bad out of six hundred! Ok, she was beaten by a guinea pig but this was no ordinary guinea pig.
