The Last Kitten...

In Burton On Trent in Staffordshire there is a highly acclaimed Cat Breeders by the name of Stacym. It is run by Kathy Hines and her house is full of cats.
Lots of cats.
A cat lovers heaven.
But these cats look somehow different.
Unique.
There are very handsome and pretty cats. They are proud and dignified, intelligent and playful, gentle but affectionate. These cats are stunningly attractive mid to long hair cats who make strange chirrupy sounds in place of the expected miaow.

....These cats are Somali's.

Somali's were first bred in the USA by Evelyn Mague. So they
are relatively new and rare.
Even cat lovers tend to look at you a little perplexed when
you mention their name. You may hear:

"Ah! an Abyssinian in a fur coat!"

The fact is they are closely related to the Abyssinian(pictured right).
It was Evelyn who realised that one of her Abyssinian cats
had a long -hair gene and decided to breed it further. The physical beauty and charming personality of this shy cat ensured that on-going breeding took place. Evelyn decided to call the cats Somalis, not because of their ancestral connections with Africa but ... well a bit of a pun really.
The country of Somalia is on the borders of Abyssinia.

On 28th September 2004 Nessie (Louies' father and centre on the picture on the left) and Kooky Cat (Louies' mother, slightly in front of Nessie in the picture) had a litter of three.
Three adorable kittens.
A queen and two toms.
It wasn't long before hopeful owners were banging on the door of Stacym after seeing their pictures on the website. The female kitten went to another home close by in Stoke On Trent.. Her name is "Mia". One of the male kittens went to Scotland. He was named "Foxy."
That left the third kitten from the litter on his own.
Home alone....
