A BIG thank you to Nick for his hard work on the declawing article which is now in circulation:
http://www.louandelcats.co.uk/articles/declaw.php
we do appreciate his help very much.
We now have 1426 signatures and have saved 35 cats that we know of. We had some words of encouragement from the USA....''You have saved more like 3000 cats as those 35 owners will have told others and they'll have told others and so forth '....
We long for the day declawing is stopped worldwide !

1498 signatures now and we have the backing of our UK Celia Haddon, Peter Neville(famous USA animal behavioural therapist) and also a retired solicitor who may be able to help us with the legal side of things. There is an idea floating around of maybe taking on one particularly nasty pro declaw vet, but as there are quite a few, nothing is decided yet , but if we could prove a case of animal abuse on kittens, against one of them it would surely get the AVMA interested in enforcing their policy that declawing should be a last resort procedure.
Meanwhile another kitten was saved over the weekend on Yahoo Answers, by educating the owner ...that's 48 now since our 'troops' gathered in November
But it's not enough, even one cat suffering is one too many.
Thanks again Nick for your great article, it went far and wide. :)

1540 signatures now and we are attractingthe attention of a few USA anti declaw vets and also animal behavioural therapists, which is great news !
Thanks again Nick for circulating my article, I'm sure some of the recent interest must have come from that.

50 extra in a week Thats brilliant Ruth. I would like nto think your article had a profound effect but I think all the work you are doing your end spreading the word is having the greatest effect.
And Peter Neville too! Fantastic. Yoyu really are moving in elite circles now. :-)
Are you in contact with Peter Neville? Did you know he has a regular article in one of the cat magazines? (Your Cat magazine I think?). I was just thinking could this be an outlet to get an article into a national magazine maybe?

just an idea.

I shall have another go at marketing the article anyway

Take care Ruth

No I didn't know Peter Neville has articles in cat magazines, that is definately worth looking into, thanks Nick !
We seem to have gained a lot more support on our groups, people with good ideas, but with time they get disheartened. If the ban goes though in San Francisco that will be a great victory, and encouragement to keep fighting, but of course pro declaw vets are against it and people who want no more laws ! It's about politics and money really as always !
Your help is invaluable Nick and thanks again.

Just an update, we have on our petition 1679 signatures now and 55 cats claws have been saved by our 'education campaign'
No more news on the San Francisco ban,it has until the 1/1/2010 to be successful, if the law isn't passed by then it has failed....hoping and praying it passes. I don't understand USA politics, all I know is that cats need claws although not everyone agrees.
But we seem to have more support than ever !!

We now have 2021 signatures, including from 12 USA vets. Our target was to reach 2,000 for the first anniversary of our petition on 11th November, so we have surpassed that ! We have saved 76 cats claws in the year and are now also helping various cities in California which are trying to get declawing banned.
Word seems to be spreading about the truth of declawing,we still have a long way to go but at least things are a bit more hopeful now.
Thanks to Nick for all his good work.
Thanks to everyone here too.

Sorry I haven't been around for so long, things are really hotting up and there aren't enough hours in a day !
We now have 3600 signatures on our petition and some great comments, which will eventualy be presented to the AVMA and declaw vets with the statistics we are working on.
Meanwhile we continue educating those who don't know the truth about the cruelty of declawing and have saved well over a hundred cats.
